I’ve had a song in my head since Sunday. I catch myself humming it at work. It keeps my pace at the gym. And when all is quiet, and a lamp is the only light on in the house, the cocklebur song sings ever so softly…

“O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: 'My God, how great Thou art!'"

I went home over the weekend and went to church with my family. We sang this song during Lord’s supper. I like it so.

If the song remains stuck in my head forever, I won’t mind a bit.

Before I left for Peru, I tried to memorize Psalm 19. My memory failed. So in addition to the broken bits of Psalms my brain produced, it was this song I found myself referencing in the whoa-baby beauty of it all.

When you think about something for an extended period of time, you get curious. Check out this link for the history of the lyrics. Neat: http://christianmusic.suite101.com/article.cfm/stuart_hine_how_great_thou_art
